成功不能倖致。做一個好漁夫，不是容易的。風雨、烈陽、驚濤駭浪和終年枯寂的海上生活，不住地淬厲他，錘打他，凝鍊他，他乃得以成為一名好漁夫。
他可以不帶什麼海圖，便能認識航道，避過暗礁，克服洶湧的波濤，安全地航行在海上。海圖就布滿在他的臉上。那一條條皺紋有如蜘蛛網，得之不易。那是經線和緯線，是航道。
他知道哪裡魚多，哪裡魚少。同一個地方，別人沒有漁穫，他卻可能有。在海上，他撒他的網，他拋他的釣線，放下魚鉤和魚餌。撒一次網，便撒一次希望；然後收獲。拋一次釣線，放一次魚鉤和魚餌，便拋放一次期待；然後拉起愉悅。海確實是一個大寶藏！
他可以看天空中的星星，從而知道他所在的位置，明白季節和時辰的推移。不必去研究什麼天文學，卻比天文學家更可靠。所有智慧都在他的黑褐色皮膚上輝耀著燦爛的光芒。那是一種至大無尚的力量。
經驗是一種最好的教育。——所謂教育，它本來就是一種嘗試，從錯誤中獲得正確答案的過程。——漁夫的睿智便是經驗的累積物。海洋學博士精研理論，講來頭頭是道；但要他到海上，可能還沒上船便暈船了，還能把他的理論應用到實際？假如這樣，滿肚子理論何用？還不如一名漁夫，他不要什麼理論或海圖，也不一定要什麼羅盤，照樣可以安全船行，來去自如。
你想當漁夫嗎？那就去吧！去經驗去！去海上乘風破浪去！去磨鍊你的智慧的寶劍去！它將在未來的時光中閃射無限光芒，為你引路。

As thus, what use does he full of the theory? He is no more than a fisherman, he who neither needs the theory or sea chart, nor certain needs what kind of compass, can navigate safely still, come and go freely.
