An Evening Scene Hsu ChiCheng
The gray-haired old man
Is walking from a step to another step
He stops now and then to pound his back
When he comes to a car maintenance shop
He hears a maintenance worker saying
While pointing to a used tyre:
“The tyre is too old
To have any elasticity
It shall be rejected for a new one.”
The old man walks on
Feeling to be walking from step to step
In the gloom of dusk and the cold ice & snow
“No, I will brace myself up!”
He murmurs, and pounds his back again
As if to pound off the bitter years
To recover elasticity of the old tyre
