While surfing the Internet, Yaira Zigelman came across information on how to build furniture out of cardboard. She makes everything from cardboard: a chest, living room tables, couches, you name it… and she brings it home.
Yaira Zigelman
[Yaira Zigelman, Furniture Maker]:
“Here there are five boards of cardboard, glued to a stand wrapped in paper… you see it here in the first layer of color, but of course one or two layers will pass until I’ll arrive at a satisfactory color, which will tell me, ‘This is it, now just varnish and no more touching.’”
[ Yaira Zigelman ,
As an artist, Zigelman holds workshops on creating works of art out of cardboard. One of Zigelman’s students talks about her experience.
[Inbal Smith, Student]:
“This is terribly creative, like taking a piece of cardboard and doing something with it that one really wants to. I have a fantasy of becoming a carpenter, which has not materialized just yet. One day, I’ll come to it, for sure. It is really close to this, it is actually building a piece of furniture with the simple resources available at home.”
[Inbal Smith,
Zigelman says one of the best things about teaching is seeing her students grow.

[ Yaira Zigelman ,
“One of the most enjoyable parts for me is to pass this on. It suits everyone, it suits both adults and children…This is so simple to do. It is to teach a technique, so that others will be able to do it on their own afterward.”
