“Lang Lang is a phenomenon….This young pianist, barely into his twenties,

has captured wide public attention with the brilliance and energy of his

  playing.” -Washington Post

The Ferst Center for the Arts at Georgia Tech presents pianist Lang Lang on

Saturday, April 15, at 8 p.m. Going to extremes is the signature style of

Chinese pianist Lang Lang – a musical legend in the making. Lang Lang has

been called one of the greatest classical pianists of his young generation

because of his phenomenal talent and his ability to capture the spirit of

every piece he plays. In his program at the Ferst Center he will perform

selections from Mozart, Schumann, Granados, Liszt, and six traditional

  Chinese pieces.

Acclaimed in the major concert halls of North America, Europe and Asia, Lang

Lang has demonstrated an extraordinary ability to connect with audiences on

a deeply personal level and has established himself as one of the most

exciting pianists of our time. Lang Lang’s talent and personality make him

an ideal ambassador for classical music and a role model for young people.

His decisive career breakthrough was in August 1999 when he made a dramatic

last-minute substitution for an indisposed Andre Watts at the Ravinia

Festival’s “Gala of the Century”, playing the Tchaikovsky Concerto with the

Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He has performed live on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”

and on “Sesame Street”. He is the first Chinese pianist to be

engaged by the Berlin Philharmonic and all“Big Five” American orchestras.

In 2004 he took up his duties as UN Goodwill Ambassador with a visit to

Tanzania, further expanded his devoted fan base with a triumphant concert

tour of Australia and New Zealand, and topped the classical charts (and even

entered the German pop charts) with his Carnegie Hall recital recording.

Lang Lang recently released a new album, “Memory”,on the Deutsche

Grammophon label. The studio recital album reflects his journey from child

prodigy to international pianist in his own right, grouping works by Mozart,

Chopin, and Schumann that shaped Lang Lang’s experience as a budding

  musician in China.
