當我們到國外時，打開電視全部都是英語節目，有不同的新聞頻道。對多數華人而言，是很困難看懂的。但對於溶入英語世界而言，能看英語電視新聞與讀英文報紙，真的是很必要又很基本的。所以平常就要養成看與讀英語新聞的習慣，久而久之，也就覺得看與讀英語新聞，是很稀鬆平常的事了。新唐人電視英語新聞節目，就是最好的一個學習平台。

由於中共的壓力，歐洲衛星公司威脅在四月十五日終止新唐人電視對亞洲的播送。

【講解】「終止」一般記者會用terminate, end, bring to an end等動詞。這個句子的結構是：介係詞片語+主要子句+介係片語。頭一個介係詞片語表示原因，尾巴的二組介系詞片語，to Asia表示位置，on April 15th.表示時間。

This issue has raised a lot of concern from many governments, human rights organizations, media groups, NTDTV viewers, and the general public.

這項問題已引起了許多政府、人權組織、媒體團體、新唐人電視觀眾及普羅大眾的關切。問題可以用question, problem, matter，但issue這個字就是很正式的新聞用語，也可譯作「議題」。

STORY:

In December of last year the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) met with Eutelsat and threatened to not do business with them for the 2008 Olympics in China if Eutelsat continued their contract with NTDTV.

在去年十二月，中共與歐衛公司會面，並且威脅歐衛如果繼續與新唐人電視台續約的話，那麼2008年在中國舉辦的奧運將不會與歐衛做生意。

In the past month, governments in Europe and the United States have risen to support NTDTV and ask Eutelsat to continue offering truthful reporting to China and Asia.

在過去一個月中，美國與歐洲許多政府已經站起來支持新唐人電視台，並且要求歐衛繼續對中國與亞洲提供真相報導。

Sixty-five members of the European Parliament signed a letter addressed to Eutelsat’s CEO, asking him to “maintain our joint commitment to fundamental European values and agreements, so that this ‘open satellite window’ continues to grow wider.”

歐洲議會的65位成員簽署了一封信件寫給歐衛的總裁，要求他「維護我們共同對基本的歐洲價值與協議，以使這個“開放的衛星之窗”繼續成長，更為寬廣」。

【講解】這一句中的addressed 可不要誤會成動詞喔，它是個分詞片語addressed to Eutelsat’s CEO，用過去分詞表示被動，這封信是被寫給歐衛總裁。, asking him to 也是分詞片語，表主動，意思是這封信要求他如何如何。這一句的主要動詞是signed。所以這一句的結構是：主要子句+過去分詞片語+現在分詞片語。新聞英語中大量使用分詞片語，所以要習慣看，容易搞混的是過去分詞片語，很容易看成過去式，其實是過去分詞，而且表示被動。以下也有很多句子都是這樣的結構。（待續）@、
