什麼是Gala呢？Gala is a special public occasion at which there is a lot of entertainment, usually in the form of a variety of performances. Gala就是一項特別的公開場合，會有很多的娛樂，經常是以各種不同的表演型式來呈現。

什麼是debut呢？When someone performs or presents something to the public for the first time. 就是當某個人對大眾第一次表演或呈現某件事情，也就是首演的意思。

Radio City Music Hall是無線電城音樂廳，是紐約甚至是世界上很著名的演出場所，在洛克菲勒中心旁邊，50街與美國大道口。

New Tang Dynasty’s New Year gala is ready to outdo itself. With its trademark blend of traditional Chinese cultural acts and high class Western performers, this years performance is set to delight audiences in New York City at Radio City Music Hall in January and at 15 other venues throughout the world.

outdo,是個及物動詞，to be, or do something, better than someone else. 超越之意。

blend, 名詞，a mixture of different things or styles. 不同的事物或形式的混合物。

is set to,預定，也可以寫作 is scheduled to , is slated to。

新唐人電視新年晚會準備超越自己，更上一層樓。新唐人新年晚會就是標榜著結合傳統中國文化與高水準的西方演出，今年的表演在元月份，預定要在紐約無線電音樂城Radio City Music Hall與全球其他15個都市舉辦。

STORY: New Tang Dynasty, a non-profit organization committed to independent media coverage, says that this year’s gala reflects their mission of bridging the gap between the East and West.

【新聞內容講解】

“Commit” means to promise or give your loyalty, time or money to a particular principle, person or plan of action. Commit的意思就是承諾或給予你的忠誠、時間或金錢，給了一項特別的原則、人或是行動的計劃。也就是「致力於」之意，也可用：dedicate, devote, indulge等。

Media coverage,媒體報導，coverage就是篇幅的意思。

At their headquarters in Manhattan, president of New Tang Dynasty Mr. Zhong Lee said: “When you think of the Gala,we are really applying our mission to present a platform for the Chinese people and the mainstream society from the Western world who want to understand Chinese culture and understand the Chinese in general.”

When you think of the Gala, 副詞子句表示時間

we are really applying our mission 主要子句

to present a platform 不定詞片語表示目的

for the Chinese people 介係詞片語表對象

and the mainstream society from the Western world “and”連接二個名詞

who want to understand Chinese culture and understand the Chinese in general. 關係代名詞who引導形容詞子句，代表the mainstream society。

新唐人電視台總裁李琮，在曼哈頓的總部表示：「當你想到新年晚會時，我們正致力於為中國人、及想要整體上了解中國文化與中國人的西方世界主流社會，呈現一個舞台。」

The gala, now in its third year, is already a major event for New York’s Chinese community. New Tang Dynasty says they want it to become a mainstay on the Western event calendar as well.

【講解】

the mainstay ：the most important part of something, providing support for everything else. Mainstay 就是某件事情中最重要的部份，提供 其他事情的支持。簡單的說，就是支柱、主要項目。

新唐人的新年晚會，現在是第三年了，已經是紐約中國社群很重要的項目。新唐人電視說他們想要每年的新年晚會，也能成為西方活動行事曆中重要的一項。

NTDTV hopes to use the Gala as a way to celebrate and educate Asians and Westerners alike on China’s 5,000 year history.

【譯文】:

新唐人希望使用新年晚會的方式，來慶祝與教育亞洲人與西方人關於中國的五千年歷史。

NTDTV President Mr. Zhong Lee: “The event is for everyone. Culturally, we need to promote an understanding between the east and west. Culturally we need to understand each other. I think storytelling and art are the most direct way to introduce Chinese culture to the western world.”

【譯文】:

新唐人總裁李琮表示：「這場演出是屬於每一個人的。在文化上，我們需要促進東方與西方的了解。文化上，我們需要彼此了解。我想說故事與藝術是最直接的方式，向西方世界介紹中國文化。」

Last year 40 percent of the audience was Western but organizers hope to attract even more Western audience members this year.

去年百分之40的觀眾是西方人，但是主辦單位希望今年能夠吸引到更多的西方觀眾。

NTDTV President Mr. Zhong Lee: “We really want to introduce Chinese culture to the Western world and the other way around. We are trying to introduce ballet and different culture to the Chinese people as well. It goes both ways.”

New Tang Dynasty’s New Year Gala will have three performances in New York City, on Jan 20-21, but will be appearing in nine major cities around the country. International locations include Sydney, Paris, Toronto, Vancouver and Hong Kong.
