150 feared dead in India train derailment
印度火車出軌，150人恐怕死亡
這又是一則人為災難新聞，算是嚴重的交通意外事故，前集中也有類似的新聞，大家可以先看影片兩遍，然後再看英文稿，再看講解，然後再看個兩遍，學習效果一定會很好。
標題150 feared dead in India train derailment （be動詞在新聞標題中一律省略）可別看成是150人「嚇死了」！而是150 are feared dead. 恐怕有150人死亡的意思。
別看這是個小問題，很多同學就是真會看錯！包括David老師有許多「醫師」學員，竟然也不會！所以說，學習新聞英語最好有明眼人帶，否則你認為看懂了，其實呢，你看錯了！
150 Indians are feared dead after a passenger train accident in India on Saturday. Seven coaches of a passenger train derailed after a bridge collapsed in heavy rain.
【講解】
客車是passenger train, 貨車則是cargo train。七節車箱是seven coaches。脫軌是derail，de-在字根上是apart（分開）的意思。與鐵軌分開，所以是「脫軌」的意思。
英語新聞中指稱「豪雨」，一般就是heavy rain與torrential rain兩個字。垮下來、塌陷下來，則是用collapse, tumble, topple。
【譯文】:
週六在印度的載客火車意外中，恐怕有150名印度人死亡。在豪大雨中一座橋樑崩塌，有七節客車箱脫軌。
The accident happened in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh. Cranes and a rescue train were rushed to the site. Reports say about 700 people have been rescued so far.
【講解】
意外「發生」，記者會用happen, occur, take place。起重機、怪手（挖土機），都可以用crane表示。were rushed to, 火速前往，在意外新聞中常用，另一個用法是were scrambled to。
【譯文】:
意外發生在印度南部安得拉邦首府海得拉巴。挖土機與救援火車火速趕往現場。報導中說，到目前為止，大約有700人已經獲救。
Chief Y.S.R Rajashekhar Reddy: “Unless the bodies are recovered, we will not be able to assess the total casualties. In the meantime, we are doing whatever is needed. The entire district administration is there, the railway people are there, and the medical teams are there. Everyone is doing whatever needs to be done.”
【講解】
Chief就是head, director，單位首長之意。一般災難新聞講屍體，有三個用字，body, corpse, remains。Assess是評估之意，assessment report就是評估報告。Casualty是指傷亡，包括受傷及死亡，是災難新聞的五星級用字。Entire是整個的、完全的，也就是 whole的意思。
Whatever needs to be done是由複合關係代名詞whatever所引導的名詞子句，作為doing的受詞。Whatever本身又是受詞，又是關係代名詞，所以稱為複合關係代名詞。
【譯文】:救援總指揮Y.S.R Rajashekhar Reddy說：「除非屍體被挖出來，我們無法評估總傷亡的數字。同時，我們正在做所需要的事。整個地區政府來了，鐵路局的人來了，醫療隊伍也來了。每個人都正在做一切所需要做的事。」
Frantic relatives have been working hard to get information about the accident.
【講解】
Frantic就是crazy, mad, wild之意，會用這個字，是不是就比用mad 來的有素養多了！
【譯文】:
瘋狂的家屬一直努力想辦法得到關於意外的消息。
Train passenger Kiran Rao: “I boarded the train at 11 am at Vishakhapatnam and by 3:00 p.m. we did not know where the train had reached. Now my niece, brother in law and sister in law are aboard the train but we have no information about them.”
【講解】
to board the train, 搭上火車。所以搭上船就是to board the boat，搭上飛機就可以說是to board the plane。
where the train had reached是wh-疑問詞所引導的名詞字句 ，作為know的受詞。比如：I don’t know who you are. 我不知道你是誰。
【譯文】:
火車上的乘客Kiran Rao說：「我是在上午十一點時在Vishakhapatnam站搭上這班火車，在下午三點前，我們不知道這班火車到達那裡了。現在我的侄女、小叔、弟媳還在火車上，但是我們沒有關於他們的消息。」
Federal railway minister Lalu Prasad Yadav says rescue workers are doing all they can to rescue the victims.
【講解】
Victim，受難者，包括受傷與死亡的。在犯罪新聞中，victim就叫受害者。
【譯文】:
聯邦鐵路部長Lalu Prasad Yadav說，救難人員正在做所有他們所能做的，以救出受難者。
Lalu Prasad: “It is raining very heavily and the train was going over a flooded canal when the incident took place. The rescue operation is on and locals have pitched in. We are saddened at the incident. The Junior Railway Minister has left for the site; we are communicating with the state government and have sought the navy and army’s help for the rescue work. The exact number of casualties will be known later. I have told the junior minister to announce for compensation but our first priority is carrying out the rescue operation.”
【講解】
Flood, 名詞是洪水，動詞就是淹水，flooded是分詞，淹水的、氾濫的。Incident，事件，與event的差別是，incident是偶發性的，event是安排好的。The locals have pitched in. 地方人士湧入，也可以說：The locals have poured in.
Left for, 前往，headed for, departed for。Compensation, 賠償。Carry out, 執行。
【譯文】:
Lalu Prasad說：「當意外發生的時侯，雨下的非常大，而火車正穿過一條河水氾濫的運河。救援行動正在進行中，當地人士也已投入進來。對於這起事故，我們非常悲傷。」副鐵路部長已前往出事地點；我們正與州政府溝通，並尋求海軍與陸軍對救難工作的協助。精確的傷亡數字稍晚就會知道。我已經知訴副部長宣佈賠償事宜，但我們的首要工作，是進行救援行動。」
The storm has been triggered by a depression over the Bay of Bengal. The power is out in six Andhra districts including Kadapa.
【講解】
Trigger當名詞是槍枝的「板機」, 當動詞則是「引發」的意思。由某個「原因」造成某個「結果」，可以用cause, ignite, spark, trigger, prompt。
Depression指涉人的心理狀態時，就是「沮喪」的意思。指涉氣象時，叫做「低氣壓」。指涉經濟活動時，就叫「蕭條」。
The power is out就是「停電」的意思，還可以用power outage或blackout.

這場暴風雨是在Bengal灣上的低氣壓所引發的。在Andhra安得拉邦有六個區都停電，包括Kadapa。
