又到番麥收穫的時候。啊，多令人喜愛的番麥！
一穗穗番麥，被從株梗上摘了下來，堆成一堆堆，然後裝袋，運走……。
開始的時候，先將地整出一壟壟來，把番麥種子播下，覆以鬆土；經過泥土中水分和溫熱的催化作用，番麥發芽了。接著，予以適時的灌水和施肥，番麥便慢慢長高長大 ，由兩片小小的嫩葉開始，慢慢長出株梗，長出劍狀綠葉，等長到一人高左右，像一片高粱，一片蔗海，便開始結穗。果穗結在長葉的地方，外面有自己長的長鬚和葉莢 包裹保護著，慢慢長飽長熟……。
然後，番麥的香味便開始隨風飄送了；由番麥田飄起，飄到農家，飄到市場，又飄到 各處人家；不管是生的混有泥土味的香味，是煮熟了和蒸汽直冒的香味，同樣引人垂 涎。好喜愛吸聞！用力地吸氣，深深地吸氣，吸進鄉土，吸進番麥的新鮮和香甜，哇！好香！好舒適！
當煮熟的番麥果穗被剝開葉莢，一股濃濃的喜悅便從心底直衝而出。除了和蒸汽同時 冒出的番麥香味而外，那一顆顆果穗上黃澄澄的果粒，如金珠，賽寶玉，盈滿而飽熟，在「炙手可熱」之際，邊吹氣邊趁熱吃，吃得津津有味，齒頰留香。是怎樣一種至 高無尚的享受！
好喜愛番麥。它的株梗、劍狀綠葉和果穗，就在眼前，尤其是果穗，更引人無限的遐 思……。
